VISAS

General information;

Nationals of the countries listed below are exempted from visa requirements for travel to Uganda. However, they need to have current PASSPORT issued by their respective countries.

Members of COMESA: Angola, Burundi, Comoros, Eritrea, Kenya, Malawi, Mauritius, Madagascar, Rwanda, Seychelles, Swaziland, Tanzania, Zambia, Zimbabwe.

Other countries exempted are: Antigua and Barbuda, The Bahamas, Belize, Fiji, Gambia, Grenada, Jamaica, Lesotho, Malta, Sierra Leone, Singapore, Solomon Islands, St. Vicent and the grenadines, Tonga, Vanuatu, Italy (only diplomatic passport holdens) and Cyprus.

Immigration information for intending visitors to Uganda.

  • Uganda visas may be obtained at Uganda missions abroad or on arrival at the country’s exit/entry stations.
  • Uganda visa can also be obtained through IVisa.
  • Entry should be made only through gazetted parts of entry/exist.
  • Every visitor’s passport should be valid at least for 6 months.
  • All arriving visitors will be required to fill in arrival declaration cards on arrival. (available at arrival lounge)
  • All visitors should not carry or convey substances prohibited by customers. (contact Uganda Revenue Authority Website). ura.go.ug for details.
  • Visitors should not over stay their visas otherwise they will be subjected to a fine of 30USD per day and other appropriate legal actions.
  • All visitors must comply with immigration registration and other national laws of the country during their stay.
  • Also yellow fever is a mandatory required to enter Uganda.

Health and Insurance.

Vaccination and Medication

  • You are advised to visit your health professional at least 3-5weeks before your trip. To find out whether you need any vaccination or other preventive measures.
  • Your yellow fever vaccination must be update before the tour.
  • Visitors should come with supplies of medicines that are likely to be needed. But you can first inquire from the Embassy whether those medicines may be freely imported.

Food and drinks.

  • All water should be regarded as being potential health risk; only use boiled or bottled water. Water for drinking, brushing teeth should be boiled or otherwise sterilised.
  • Milk is unpasteurised and it should be boiled. Powdered and tinned milk is available and advised.
  • Eat well cooked meat and fish preferably served hot.
  • Vegetables should be cooked and fruits pealed. Wash fresh fruits well before eating and avoid raw food in restaurants.
  • Do not eat food prepared by unlicensed vendors.
  • Carry hand sanitizer to use before meals.

Other risks;

  • HIV/AIDS is wide spread.
  • Vaccination against tuberculosis and hepatitis B are sometimes advised.
  • There risks of Road accidents.
  • Malaria is the most serious health concern for travellers visiting Uganda Antimalarial medication prior to the trip is advised.
  • You are advised to have good insect repellent sprays and try to avoid bites between dusk and down by always covering up.
  • Diarrhoea disease and intestinal worms are also a concern and travellers should be careful of what they eat and drink.

Travel health Insurance

Medical facilities in Uganda are limited, medical help at the scene of an accident is likely to be limited.

In case of serious accidents or illness, make sure you have adequate travel health Insurance and accessible funds to cover the cost of any medical treatment abroad and repatriation.

Safety of tourists’ property;

  • We take extra care of our tourists’ properties and we advise them to lock their hotel rooms, and car windows should be closed when passing populated areas, as there are many pocket pickers.
